In 1910 John L. Blair, a law school student, was approached by a classmate with a novel offer: was he interested in becoming the sales manager for a raincoat factory? Intrigued, Mr. Blair took a suitcase of black raincoats and approached shop owners en route home
for Easter vacation. The owners were reluctant to carry a sizeable inventory of raincoats and he sold just one, directly to an undertaker! So, with the sale of one raincoat, he made the pivotal decision to borrow $500 to print and mail flyers to 10,000
undertakers across the country. Thus, New Process Rubber Company was born.
Now in 2006, Blair Corporation is one of America’s largest direct-market retailers. From our humble beginnings offering one product to a few hundred customers, they’ve grown to sell thousands of items to millions of customers.
